Bouncer
About the Projekt
Bouncer is a web-based quiz game designed to be used alongside university lectures. The game’s story centres around the player wanting to get into a nightclub, but to do so, they have to correctly answer all of the bouncer’s questions. Lecturers can input their own questions, turning the game into an interactive and gamified way for students to review and memorise course material. This project was created during my internship at the Institute of Creative\Media/Technologies as a high-fidelity prototype, intended to be presented to the board as a potential candidate for further funding and full realisation.
I kicked off the project by creating static wireframes and mock-ups to map out the overall user flow. Since the game would primarily be played on smartphones, we focused on the mobile version first. After finalising the wireframes, I put together a moodboard and some concept art for the intro and outro cutscenes, which I then presented to my supervisor. We decided on a cool, neon-accented colour palette to reflect the atmosphere of nightlife. Visually, the goal was to create something that stood out, bolder and more characterful than the typical clean, minimal quiz game.
Once the direction was approved, I illustrated the cutscenes along with various icons and UI elements. The animations were done in Blender, allowing for a parallax effect and dynamic camera movement. I made two different intro sequences, each showing a unique club environment, introducing some replayability. The playable prototype was programmed by another intern, and once the first version was ready, I conducted user tests and wrote detailed reports based on the feedback.
Overall, this project was fun, it let me combine UI/UX design with game art, and apply the practical skills I’d developed throughout my bachelor’s degree in a real-world context.
